The Alzheimer Society of Toronto will hand out 10,000 iPods to people with dementia in a bid to help them remember long lost memories.
The program began last December, handing out iPods, headphones and $100 iTunes gift cards.
Volunteers will be available to help download songs that are appropriate to each individual.
Expers told the Toronto Star that the choice of music is crucial because music is specific to someone's teenage years and can arouse the brain even decades later.
Music has been found to alleviate some of the depresion and anxiety associated with dementia.
