iPhone 6 / 5S release date in August plus iPod touch 6

Apple will release one or more new iPhone models this August, signaling the release date for the iPhone 6, iPhone 5S, or both. A keynote event, at Apple's developer conference or at a separate press event, will mark the latest iPhone introduction. But Apple keynotes tend to involve far more than just one new product update, pointing to sidenote products such as the iPod touch 6 or "One More Thing" products such as the iWatch. As with the iPhone 6, it's a matter not of if Apple will release these other new products, but simply of when. Here's a look August introductions, release dates, and their likelihood of happening.

iPhone 6, 5S

At issue here is which new iPhone is coming. The iPhone 5S name signals an internal redesign of the current iPhone 5 with better hardware specs and new software based features. The iPhone 6 name points to a full revamp of the phone design itself. Both could see a simultaneous release date, with the iPhone 6 taking the current top line pricing and the iPhone 5S immediately taking the role currently occupied by the iPhone 4S. At least one new iPhone will arrive in August. We'd like it to be the 6, but at only eleven months after the 5, the cautious money is on the 5S. Both would be remarkable.

iPod touch 6

This one is straightforward. When the iPhone changes to a new hardware design, the iPod touch changes along with it. So an iPhone 6 will mean an iPod touch 6, while an iPhone 5S will mean that the iPod touch will remain in its current incarnation, possibly with internal spec upgrades to match that of the 5S.

iWatch

The story behind the iWatch is that it communicates wirelessly with your iPhone, acting as a notification system and minor-functionality surrogate allowing you to send texts or check Facebook from your wrist without having to fish your phone out of your pocket. It's long been expected to debut alongside the iPhone 6. But if it's ready and the iPhone 5S is the one seeing its release date in August, the iWatch could debut alongside it.
