Apple UK holds Facebook giveaway contest for 50 "ex

Apple UK is doling out a bunch of MacBook Airs on 15 August, thanks to a giveaway contest on its Facebook page.

Specifically, the Apple Store at Covent Garden in London cannot sell 50 MacBook Airs because they are "ex-display" laptops. Apple UK therefore announced on Monday that it would give them away. Those interested in obtaining a MacBook Air simply need to like the Apple UK Facebook page and comment on this Facebook photo.

"We will choose 50 people completely at random on 15th August," wrote Apple UK on its Facebook page, where nearly 5,000 contestants have already entered the contest as of Monday evening.

Ex-display items typically mean the products themselves have been on display for a short time or have an opened box. Although stores usually inspect ex-display items for any damage, marks or blemishes, they often come with a manufacturer's warranty.

It is unclear what configurations these MacBook Airs have and whether they were just opened, on display or will come with a warranty. Pocket-lint has contacted Apple UK for clarification and will update when more information becomes available.
