Teen selling iPod gets punched by Bend robber

A Redmond teen who put his iPod up for sale on Craigslist met a potential buyer at a southwest Bend street corner Tuesday afternoon - but instead got punched in the face and robbed of the device, according to police who are seeking public tips to help find and arrest the culprit.

Police responded shortly before 2 p.m. to the reported robbery at SW Carm Lane and Pam Place, said Lt. Chris Carney.

They learned the 17-year-old, who was house-sitting in Bend, advertised an iPod worth $200 on Craigslist, Carney said. He made arrangements to meet the would-be buyer at the intersection.

When they met, the man inspected the iPod to make sure it worked, then punched the teen in the face once, causing minor injuries to the left side of his face, the lieutenant said.

The suspect last was seen running toward the west on Pam Place, and a search by police did not find him.

The suspect is described as a 17- or 18-year-old male, possibly a Pacific Islander, about 6 feet tall and weighing about 180 pounds, with black hair. Carney said he was wearing a black shirt and black shorts, and had scarring on the inside of both forearms.

Anyone with information about the case was asked to contact Bend police at (541) 322-2960. You also could contact the Crime Stoppers Tip Line at 1-877-876-TIPS, or use the form on KTVZ.COM's Crime Stoppers page. You can remain anonymous, and you could be eligible for a cash reward.

Carney said the suspect likely would face charges of fourth-degree assault, third-degree robbery and second-degree theft.
